Cancellation of Wednesday Stableford-14/4/21

After several questions being raised by the members regarding the cancellation of the above competition, we felt it would be worthwhile to explain the decision, and the reasons behind it. With heavy overnight frost, it’s important that we act to protect the full greens by using the temporary greens, and as these temporary greens were in use for roughly the first two hours of play, the competition could not begin. Had we left the competition open for sign in, a large number of players would then have to be refunded their entry fees individually. A new competition would then have to be created, with no real idea of what time this could commence (frost dependant).

We understand the frustration from the golfers who played from the late morning onwards, as the weather had improved, and the temperature had risen, but a decision had to be made early this morning before play commenced. We, along with several other golf courses in the area, thought it was the fairest decision to cancel the competition.

With the introduction of the new World Handicap System, players were still able to enter a ‘casual round’ for handicap purposes once the course had returned to full greens.

Hopefully the frosty mornings are past us now, and we won’t have to worry about a repeat this season.
